UNM BIOLOGY PROFESSOR TO SPEAK AT THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE RIO GRANDE BRANCH OF AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MICROBIOLOGY University of New Mexico Biology Department Associate Professor Diana
Northrup will be one of several speakers to address the Rio Grande Branch
of the American Society for Microbiology (RGASM) at its annual meeting
Feb. 7-8, in room 135 of the Nursing/Pharmacy Building located on UNMs
North Campus. The meeting, which begins at 2 p.m. on Friday, will emphasize
environmental microbiology and clinical microbiology. Northrup was featured last October in a segment on the science program
NOVA on KNME-TV. Her segment, The Lives of Extremophiles,
was part of the program, The Mysterious Life of Caves. Other speakers include Todd Primm, Department of Biology, UTEP, and Eric
Johnson, a Waksman Foundation speaker and professor of Food Microbiology
and Toxicology at the University of Wisconsin. Additional short talks
will also be presented by UNM faculty and staff. A student abstract competition, featuring the work of undergraduate and graduate students, will also be part of the two-day meeting. Six awards, three in each level, will be awarded to the winners.
