January 22, 2003 LAMADRID TO BE HONORED BY UNM GENERAL LIBRARY
Lamadrid, a New Mexico native, will present, "Tormentos del Coyote:
Hybridity, Essentialism, and the Perils of Inter-Cultural Work."
A Rockefeller scholar based at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and
Cultural Heritage, Lamadrid is co-founder of Conexiones, an intensive
culture and language study course that takes students to Trujillo, Spain;
Cayey, Puerto Rico; or Morelia, Mexico. He studies ethnopoetics, ethnoecology, the folklore and folk music of
the Southwestern Hispanics and Latin Americans, Chicano literature and
contemporary Mexican poetry. The UNM General Library's Faculty Acknowledgement Series was established
in 1994 to honor outstanding faculty from each UNM school and college. The event is free and open to the public. # # #
