January 27, 2003 UNM ARCHITECTURE STUDENT NAMED TO NATIONAL BOARD Roger Schluntz, dean of the University of New Mexico School of Architecture
and Planning, announced that Albuquerque native Robert Williams was elected
to the board of directors for the American Institute of Architecture Students
(AIAS). Williams, a third year architecture student and president of the UNM
AIAS chapter, was elected at the recent national meeting in Chicago. "Robert's elected position demonstrates the kind of energetic, interested
and active student body we have at the UNM School of Architecture and
Planning," Andy Pressman, director, architecture program, said. "I am very excited about the appointment. I look forward to working
more with the students here at UNM as well as at other schools. UNM has
a strong architecture program and I am interested in visiting other schools
to learn more about their programs to see if there is anything we can
use here," Williams said. Pressman said that he's "delighted" that Williams has taken
on a leadership role within the school and that it will "generate
high morale" within the student body. "The quality of our education is strongly dependent upon what we
put into it," Williams said, adding that active learners put their
education into practice. Despite the pressure of being a fulltime student and an AIAS board member, Williams said he looks forward to what he will learn. # # #
