February 3, 2003 MARTINEZ NAMED KUNM PROGRAM DIRECTOR Marcos Martinez has been named program director of KUNM radio, 89.9 FM, effective Monday, Feb. 3, announced Richard Towne, KUNM general manager. For almost 20 years, Martinez served as KUNM's news director. "Marcos' commitment to community access, mentoring of students and community members interested in news and public affairs, local reporting and community radio have benefited KUNM and the listeners we serve," Towne said. KUNM has been without the key position of program director since the late1980's, said Towne. Community response to KUNM programming has increased to a level where this key position can be reinstated to the operations staff roster, he said. "Marcos comes to the position well qualified to provide leadership and support in an era where the media landscape is constantly changing," Towne said. "I am excited and honored to be selected program director of KUNM. The station has huge possibilities for future growth. I look forward to working and collaborating with others to move the station forward," Martinez said. "Because the position was vacant for so long, Marcos will be working with the full KUNM community to develop the scope of the program director's position over the coming months," Towne said.
