UNM’S ANDERSON SCHOOLS ANNOUNCE 2003 HALL OF FAME RECIPIENTS

The Robert O. Anderson Schools of Management (ASM) at the University of New Mexico will honor three alumni at the 14th Annual Hall of Fame dinner, Thursday, April 3, at the Sheraton Old Town. This year’s recipients include: Michelle A. Coons, president/CEO at Wells Fargo Bank Santa Fe; Gary L. Dushane, certified public accountant (CPA), partner, KPMG LLP; and Edward J. Neff, CPA, retired partner, Neff/Ricci LLP.

“I am impressed by the high quality of nominees we received for these awards,” said Kathy Sporing, senior vice president and regional private banking manager at Wells Fargo and the chairperson for this year’s event. “While all of our alumni nominees were impressive, these three really set themselves apart with their commitment to making a difference, both in their professional accomplishments and contributions to the community.”

Coons joined Wells Fargo shortly after receiving her bachelors in business administration from The Anderson Schools in 1983. As president of Wells Fargo Bank Santa Fe since January 1999, she has overseen the growth of the bank from $25 million to $350 million and exceeded budgeted earnings for the past four years. She is past chair of The ASM Foundation Board and national past president of the UNM Alumni Association. She was named a Power Broker by the New Mexico Business Weekly in 2002 and 2003.

Dushane was named partner in charge of the Midwest Area Risk Advisory Services Practice for KPMG in October 2001 and was relocated to KPMG’s Chicago office after spending more than 26 years in Albuquerque. Currently he serves on the Financial Research and Advisory Committee of Chicago and the Board of Directors for Chicago’s Goodman Theater. In 2002, he was named one of
the Top 100 New Mexico Power Brokers by the New Mexico Business Weekly. He received his bachelor’s degree in education from UNM in 1973 and his master’s in business administration from ASM in 1975.

Neff is a retired partner from the firm of Neff/Ricci LLP. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Albuquerque Chapter of Certified Public Accountants and the New Mexico Estate Planning Council. Neff’s service to the Albuquerque community spans more than four decades through his involvement with organizations such as Albuquerque Little Theater and the Heights Optimist Club, as well as his participation in the founding of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. He is a UNM Letterman and a member of UNM’s Lobo Club. He received his bachelor’s in business administration from ASM in 1948.

Awards will be presented to the recipients at the Hall of Fame dinner. The event begins with no-host cocktails at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. The major sponsors for this year’s event are Wells Fargo Bank, Intel Corporation, Bank of the West, Charter Companies, KPMG LLP, PNM and Grant Thornton.

Corporate table sponsorships are available at $1,000 for business and industry partners, and $600 for non-profit organizations. Individual tickets cost $75. To make reservations or to inquire about table sponsorships, call the ASM Development Office at (505) 277-0880 or e-mail mchale@mgt.unm.edu by Monday, March 31.

The Hall of Fame dinner is ASM’s most significant annual community event. The funds raised support student scholarships, faculty research and career placement activities. Last year’s event raised more than $50,000.
