February 20, 2003 PUBLIC ARTIST NANCY HOLT TO SPEAK AT UNM Renowned public artist Nancy Holt presents, "The Ins and Outs of
My Environmental, Site-Specific Sculpture over Three Decades," on
Monday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Northrup 122 on the UNM campus. The free presentation is part of the John Gaw Meem Lecture Series hosted
by the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and Planning. Holt, sculptor, writer, filmmaker and resident of Galisteo, NM, details
her projects such as the Sun Tunnels in the Utah desert, Dark Star Park
in Arlington, Va., Catch Basin in Toronto, Canada, and Sole Source in
Dublin, Ireland. The recipient of numerous awards, Holt has received five National Endowment
for the Arts Fellowships, two New York Creative Artist Fellowships, a
Guggenhiem Fellowship and an honorary doctorate from the University of
South Florida, Tampa. Holt incorporates concrete, brick, stonemasonry, earth and/or steel in
combination with patterns of sunlight, moonlight, astronomical alignments
or water reflections to create sculptures that seemingly emerge from the
environment. The lecture is sponsored by the John Gaw Meem Endowment. Call 277-2903 for information. # # # |
