ASIAN STUDIES HOSTS TALK ON 'MIDDLE EAST IN A TROUBLED AGE'

R. Stephen Humpreys, professor of Islamic and middle eastern history at the University of California at Santa Barbara will present, "The Middle East in a Troubled Age," Monday, March 3, at 2 p.m. in Dane Smith Hall, rm. 125, at the University of New Mexico.

Humpreys is the author of five books, including, "Between Memory and Desire: The Middle East in a Troubled Age," and "The Islamic World: Expansion and Consolidation from Saladin to the Mongols."

He is an expert on tradition and modernity in Islamic political thought, Islam and democracy, war and diplomacy in the Middle East and formation of Islamic civilization.

The talk is sponsored by the UNM Asian Studies Department.
