February 25, 2003 New Mexico Historical Review Releases Fall 2002 Edition The New Mexico Historical Review (NMHR) has published its most recent
edition. The Fall 2002 issue has three stories, a review essay, and book
reviews. One of the stories featured in the edition is "Senator Clinton P.
Anderson's Library Legacy," by Marianne R. Tyndall, which chronicles
the library legacy left to the University of New Mexico by a former United
States Senator from New Mexico, Clinton P. Anderson (1948-1972). His collection,
compiled throughout his life, is a mixture of books from New Mexico antique
bookstores as well as those he found while in Washington, D.C. and includes
some of the most comprehensive in terms of early Southwest history. He
donated over 3,500 items to the university from his own personal collection
in 1972, in addition to the almost 2,300 government and literary items
he had donated during his career in Congress. The collection is housed
in the Center for Southwest Studies in the west wing of Zimmerman Library. Also included in this edition "Men and Varmints in the Gila Wilderness,
1909-1936," by John R. Sweet and Culture at Work by Matthew Basso. The New Mexico Historical Review is owned and published quarterly by
the University of New Mexico. Subscriptions are available. Individual
copies are $10. Contact the editor, Durwood Ball, at 505-277-5839 or write University of New Mexico, Historical Review, 1013 Mesa Vista Hall, Alb., N.M., 87131. ### |
