March 25, 2003 UNM ANTHROPOLOGY GRADUATE STUDENT SYMPOSIUM SET FOR MARCH 28-29 The University of New Mexicos annual Anthropology Graduate Student
Symposium is scheduled for Friday, March 28 from noon to 5 p.m. in Dane
Smith Hall, rm. 125, and Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in
the Hibben Center rm. 105. The event is sponsored by the Anthropology Graduate Student Union,
and participants include both graduate students and faculty. The symposium
offers an opportunity for students and community members to increase
their awareness of relevant issues heard or offered from a variety of
viewpoints. Presentations include graduate student research on health, American
Indians in the Southwest and California, innovative methodologies and
theories in anthropology, womens roles in a variety of contexts,
archaeological landscapes and material culture, and applied anthropology,
among other topics. The symposium includes two additional events this year: a faculty presentation
on collaboration in the field and a roundtable on diversity issues presented
by graduate students. Participation shows the breadth of issues addressed
by anthropology and the ways different approaches can confront them.
The symposium is free and open to the public. For further information, contact Christy Doherty at cdoherty@unm.edu or at 463-0835. ### |
