April 2, 2003 UNM COMMUNICATION CONFERENCE EXPLORES LATEST TRENDS Scholars interested in culture, diversity and difference will gather
at the 2nd annual Communication and Culture Conference "Widening
the Lens" hosted by the Department of Communication and Journalism
at the University of New Mexico April 25-26. More than 75 scholars from 10 states will give presentations. Local communication consultant Dr. Stephen Littlejohn, author of the
noted textbook, "Theories of Human Communication," will give
the keynote address Saturday, April 26, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Dane
Smith Hall, rm.125. A reception will follow at University House. Presentation topics include a look at recent trends in communication
research; rise in feminist scholarship; spirituality, worldview and
communication; Sept. 11 media coverage's effect on teens with disabilities;
technology's influence on communication and globalization; performing
arts and culture; analysis of U.S. President George W. Bush's speeches;
women across cultures, and more. Conference activities are Friday, April 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday,
April 26 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is $45 general, $25 undergraduates, and $35 graduate students.
