MEXICAN AMERICAN LAW STUDENTS ASSOCIATION TO HONOR RIOS
LULAC legal counsel speaks April 11

Rolando Rios, legal counsel for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) will speak Friday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the University of New Mexico School of Law, rm. 2401, 1117 Stanford NE.

The law school and MALSA, the UNM Mexican American Law Students Association, sponsor the free talk.

Rios will receive the MALSA Fighting For Justice Award at a banquet April 12.

Rios has been involved in redistricting more than 200 jurisdictions in the U.S. Southwest at all levels from small school districts to the State of Texas. He has handled election contests, recounts and a broad range of litigation under the Federal
Voting Rights Act.

Rios is the former general counsel for the Southwest Voters Registration and Education Project and has represented the City of San Antonio and Hispanic and African-American members of the Texas legislature in various redistricting matters. A decorated Vietnam War veteran, in 1995, Rios was appointed by U.S. President Bill Clinton to serve on the Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War veteran's illnesses.
