Professor Malloy to be honored by UNM General Library

Professor MalloyThe University of New Mexico General Library honors Associate Professor Kevin J. Malloy on Thursday, April 24 from 3-4 p.m. in the Willard Reading Room in Zimmerman Library as part of the General Library’s Faculty Acknowledgement Series.

Malloy, associate director of the Center for High Technology Materials and associate professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, will present “Nanotechnology Going Faster than the Speed of Light.”

Malloy graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Stanford University with degrees in electrical engineering. After serving in the U.S. Air Force as a program manager at the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, he was a visiting faculty at Berkeley before joining UNM in 1990.

Malloy has graduated 15 Ph.D. students, two of whom work in academia. The School of Engineering has previously honored Malloy with the Distinguished Junior Research and Junior Teaching Awards. Most recently he was recognized with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s Distinguished Researcher award for 2001-2002.

His research interests encompass the growth and properties of photonic materials. He promises himself that when he retires he will investigate the optical properties of bug wings.

The UNM General Library’s Faculty Acknowledgement Series was established in 1994 to honor outstanding faculty from each UNM school and college.

The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
