EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY EXPERT OFFERS FREE WORKSHOPS AT UNM COLLEGE OF EDUCATION APRIL 28

Internationally recognized educational technology expert Alan November will offer free public workshops and give a presentation Monday, April 28, at the University of New Mexico College of Education's Technology and Education Center (TEC).

Classroom Computer Learning Magazine named November one of the most influential thinkers of the decade in K-12 technologies. He holds a master's degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. November is well known for applying humor and wit to help people think about applying technology to improve learning for children and adults.

November will challenge the way people think about technology and learning during two interactive workshops. The presentation at Woodward Hall will provide insight into the latest strategies for planning and implementing learning technologies.

The scheduled is as follows:

  • " 9 to 11 a.m. "Grammar of the Internet," hands-on workshop, TEC, rm. 201.
This workshop explores effective strategies on how to use the Internet as a research and teaching tool. How can educators and students sort through and authenticate the information found there? Advance registration required - attendance is limited to 30 people. http://tec.unm.edu/workshops/index.htm
  • " 1:30 to 3 p.m. "Crafting the Future," hands-on workshop, TEC, rm. 201
Technical skill is trivial compared to the critical thinking skills that are needed to establish the new framework for learning, November says. Participants of this workshop will have a chance to examine how technology does and does not impact the framework for learning. Advance registration required attendance is limited to 30 people. http://tec.unm.edu/workshops/index.htm
  • " 4 to 6 p.m. Keynote address "Fearless Learning," Woodward Hall, rm. 101. No advance registration is required for the talk.

"The workshops and presentations will benefit the campus community by opening a dialogue about how the teaching and learning process can be empowered by the use of technology," said Shirley Weaver, TEC training and development specialist. "In addition, this event will provide valuable insight into the latest strategies for the effective planning and implementation of powerful learning technologies."

The events are sponsored by the TEC. For more information, contact Shirley Weaver at 277-0465. To register, visit: http://tec.unm.edu/workshops/index.htm.
