AMERICAN INDIAN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION TO HOLD COMMEMORATIVE BANQUET The American Indian Business Association (AIBA) will hold its 7th Annual
Commemorative Banquet on Friday, May 2, 2003, at the Sandia Casino from
6:30 p.m. to midnight. The purpose of the annual event is to recognize
American Indian graduates from the University of New Mexico, reflect
on AIBAs achievements and honor American Indian leaders and businesses.
The keynote speaker is Edward T. Begay, former Speaker of the Navajo
Nation Council. The event will also include the presentation of the 3rd Annual American
Indian Entrepreneurial Leadership Award, which is given to an American
Indian business person who has made significant contributions to the
tribal community. AIBA will also honor three American Indian students
with the Katchee E. Mitchell Student Leadership Award to recognize their
academic achievements and the contributions they have made to their
respective communities. The award is named after Katchee E. Mitchell,
co-founder of the AIBA, who passed away earlier this year. Founded in 1994, the American Indian Business Association is a student
organization at The Anderson Schools of Management at UNM. AIBA strives
to provide American Indian students with access to education at UNM
with a focus on recruitment, retention and increasing the graduation
rate of American Indian students. AIBA also serves as a link between
students and the business and tribal communities. Tickets for the banquet, including dinner, entertainment and a dance, are $25 and may be purchased at the AIBA office at the ASM. For more information call (505) 277-8447 or e-mail AIBA@unm.edu. # # #
