VAST POLITICAL POSTER COLLECTION TOPIC OF AAI LECTURE AT UNM

A lecture and slide presentation "Public Aesthetics and Mass Politics: Modern Latin American Posters" will be delivered by Teresa Eckmann, University of New Mexico Ph.D., candidate in Latin American Studies, Wednesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the UNM Arts of the Americas Institute, 1923 Las Lomas NE.

Eckmann is a 2001-03 UNM Zimmerman Library Center for Southwest Research Nina-Otero Warren fellow. Russ Davidson, curator of the library's Latin American and Iberian collections, will give the introduction.

The presentation introduces students, faculty and the community at large to the CSWR's Sam L. Slick collection of Latin American and Iberian political posters, 10,000 political and cultural posters from the 1960s to present, primarily from Latin American and Spain. Eckmann, who archived the collection for the center, will present a visual and thematic overview.

Davidson will present both historical background on the collection and relate how the materials, strong in research potential and worthy of scholarly inquiry, will be made accessible to the public in the near future through exhibition, publication and via the Internet.
