A lecture and slide presentation "Public Aesthetics and Mass Politics:
Modern Latin American Posters" will be delivered by Teresa Eckmann,
University of New Mexico Ph.D., candidate in Latin American Studies,
Wednesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. at the UNM Arts of the Americas Institute,
1923 Las Lomas NE. Eckmann is a 2001-03 UNM Zimmerman Library Center for Southwest Research
Nina-Otero Warren fellow. Russ Davidson, curator of the library's Latin
American and Iberian collections, will give the introduction. The presentation introduces students, faculty and the community at
large to the CSWR's Sam L. Slick collection of Latin American and Iberian
political posters, 10,000 political and cultural posters from the 1960s
to present, primarily from Latin American and Spain. Eckmann, who archived
the collection for the center, will present a visual and thematic overview.
Davidson will present both historical background on the collection
and relate how the materials, strong in research potential and worthy
of scholarly inquiry, will be made accessible to the public in the near
