MUNROE ENJOYS THEATRE INTERACTION AT UNM

Kathleen MunroeUniversity of New Mexico student and Los Alamos High School graduate Kathleen Munroe says her time at UNM has been a remarkable experience.

As a theater major she finds herself in a wide variety of classes that range from costume design to sign language. She believes that the classes at UNM are unlike any other.

"I love the variety of classes I have taken here," Munroe said. "My classes are not only interesting but are taught by incredible people."

Munroe, a sophomore, also spent time as a teaching assistant for Psychology 105 in which she helped others succeed in the course.

She credits some of her success at UNM in part to the lottery scholarship. She believes that along with this scholarship and the wide variety of classes offered to her she has been able to achieve a great deal.

"The Lottery Scholarship and the wide variety of career options attracted me to the University of New Mexico," Munroe said. "If I had gone out of state I would have had to take on part-time jobs to get through school."

Munroe says she is grateful for deciding to attend UNM.

"I know that if I had done that I would not have been as successful academically and I probably would not have been able to give the time needed to work in theatre and discover my passion for it," she said.

When asked about her inspirations in life, Munroe credits two Los Alamos teachers for changing her life.

"Mrs. Nadaskay-Goeller, my high school world literature teacher, showed me that when I put my mind to something and worked really, really hard at it, I could be successful. Justine Jones, my first drama teacher, if I hadn't taken her classes in middle school I don't think I would have done anything with theatre at all."

Munroe, daughter of Jim Munroe and Nancy Grover, was named to the fall 2002 dean's list for excellence in academics. To be named to the dean's list a student must maintain above a 3.5 grade point average.

After graduation Munroe plans on pursuing a master's degree and then a career in stage or production management for professional productions.
