PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Students will race LEGO robots.

UNM hosts ‘LEGO Robot Healthcare’ competition May 7

The annual University of New Mexico Mechanical Engineering LEGO Robot Competition is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, at noon in the Mechanical Engineering building atrium.

This year’s theme, “LEGO Robot Healthcare!” features teams of engineering students who designed and constructed computer-controlled mobile robot vehicles from LEGO blocks. The robots are entirely autonomous, relying on sensors and programming to negotiate the course. The robots must fill a cup with water, deposit an Alka-Seltzer tablet into the water, then carry the “medication” to a sick “patient” where the medication must be dropped off. The winner is the robot which delivers the most medication to the patient.
