May 7, 2003 UNM ARCHITECTURE GRADUATE STUDENTS TO PRESENT ANGEL FIRE PERFORMING
ARTS CENTER DESIGNS
Angel Fire Arts Foundation approached the UNM School of Architecture
last fall to consider design projects for a performing arts facility
there, said Castillo, who thought it would be a good project for his
class. The class viewed the site, south of Shuter Library, taking photos and
walking the terrain. "Six teams of two students each have been working since then on
their designs, to be unveiled at the presentation. They have had access
to acoustics experts and designers of other performing arts facilities.
A publication of all the conceptual designs and research findings on
performing arts facilities will be produced as a final product,"
said Castillo. The public is invited to the session as are professional architectural
firms. Special guests include representatives of the Angel Fire Arts
Foundation, Moreno Valley Arts Council, Angel Fire Mountain Theatre
and Music From Angel Fire. "We've been working for over five years now towards the day a performing arts center will be a reality in Angel Fire," said Sharon Floyd, president of the Angel Fire Arts Foundation and Moreno Valley Arts Council. "Now that a great location has been offered, and we can see some conceptual designs from these innovative students, we are finally making significant progress towards that goal. Our hopes are to announce a capital campaign in conjunction with this summer's 20th anniversary of Music From Angel Fire," she said. # # #
