LOS ALAMOS STUDENT RECEIVES UNM LETTERMEN SCHOLARSHIP

The University of New Mexico Alumni Lettermen's Association has awarded a fifth year scholarship to Michelle R. Longmire of Los Alamos.

The $500 award will help Longmire, a member of the UNM Women's Soccer team, complete a double-major in biology and political science at the University.

"Michelle is an exemplary student athlete," said Kit Vela, UNM's Women's Soccer coach. "Michelle has been a team player for four years and was captain senior year."

The UNM Alumni Lettermen's Association has a membership drive each year to raise funds. Alumni from across the country contribute by way of paying dues.

"The organization prides itself on awarding scholarships annually," said Justin Hall, association president.

Longmire, who has a 3.96 cumulative GPA, will graduate in December 2003.

"I am honored to receive this scholarship," she said. "To me this scholarship not only recognizes both athletic and scholastic achievements, but also demonstrates UNM affiliate's generosity and sustained support for Lobo athletics."

Scholarship recipients attend the UNM Hall of Honor Banquet held at the Sheraton, Old Town in Albuquerque on Thursday, Sept. 25, and the Alumni Lettermen Homecoming dinner, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3.
