July 28, 2003 NAGEL NAMED INTERIM ASSOCIATE DEAN OF UNM GRAD STUDIES Dr. Elizabeth "Liza" Nagel has been named interim associate
dean for Graduate Studies at the University of New Mexico, said UNM
Dean of Graduate Studies Teresita Aguilar. "Her expertise in grant-writing, project development and evaluation,
workplace management, and graduate student mentorship will add a valuable
dimension to the operations and initiatives in Graduate Studies at UNM,"
Aguilar said. Nagel, an associate professor of health education at UNM, has provided
lead instruction for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies Program offered
by UNM's Division of Continuing Education. Her current research focuses
on adolescent risk-taking behaviors and etiology of stress. Her research
is published is the American Journal of Health Behavior, the
Rural Educator, the Journal of Drug Education and the
Journal of Education Issues of Language Minority Students. Prior to coming to UNM in 1993, Nagel served as a project associate
in the Graduate School at Washington State University and as the director
of the Institute for Substance Abuse Prevention Studies in Idaho where
she was awarded the 1989 National Exemplary Drug Prevention Award by
the U.S. Department of Education. Nagel received her Ph.D. in higher education, her master's degree in home economics - family relations, both from Washington State University, and her bachelor's degree in child development from California State University, Chico. # # # |
