GALLUP BRANCH DIRECTOR FINALISTS NAMED
University of New Mexico Provost Brian Foster has announced there will
be four finalists for the UNM Gallup Branch director position.
Each candidate will visit the branch for two days to meet with administrators,
staff, faculty, and the general public. The candidates, and their respective
visits, are as follows:

April 21-22 for Judith E. Doerr, Ph.D, whose last
position was temporary director of Institutional Effectiveness, Cochise
College, Sierra Vista, Ariz; latter 2002. She served as associate
executive director for Educational Services for the State Board of
Directors for Community Colleges of Arizona, Phoenix, fiscal year
2001-02. Doerr was vice president for Instructional Services for Northland
Pioneer College, Holbrook, Ariz., 1997-2001, and served as dean, Social
Science and Public Service Technologies, at Lakeland Community College,
Kirtland, Ohio, 1983-97.

April 24-25 for Jo Anne Pegler, Ph.D., MPH, director
for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention National
Diabetes Prevention Center since 1999. She also served as senior behavioral
scientist for the CDC's largest entity, the National Center for HIV/STD/TB
Prevention. She directed The Community Institute, the first community
based public health practice institute in Houston, Texas, from 1994-96.
She was with the University of Texas School of Public Health from
1987-95.

April 28-29 for Tommy H. Lewis, Jr., Ed.D, whose
last position was president of Northwest Indian College, Bellingham,
Wash.; latter 2000 to early 2002. He served as president of Dine'
College, Tsaile, Ariz, 1993 to 1999; and vice president, 1992-93.
Lewis was a faculty associate with Northern Arizona University,
Flagstaff, Ariz, 1989-92

May 1-2 for Elizabeth L. Miller, Ed.D, dean of
instruction for UNM Gallup since 1996, and interim UNM Gallup
director since January 2002. Miller was chair of the Business
Technology Department at the branch from 1987-96.
The candidate selected for the position will succeed
Robert E. Carlson who accepted a position as president of Chabot
College in Hayward, Calif., in January 2002.
