August 22, 2003 UNM MAXWELL MUSEUM CELEBRATES ASIA ON SEPTEMBER 6 The University of New Mexico Maxwell Museum Association hosts "Celebrate Asia," a salute to Asian culture and cuisine in the ballroom at the newly renovated Student Union Building, Saturday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $125 per person or $1,250 for a reserved table for 10. The event will be held to benefit the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology and the Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies at UNM. The gala dinner, featuring Asian cuisine, will be prepared by celebrity chefs Patricia Yeo, chef, and author of Cooking from A to Z; Charles Phan of Slanted Door, San Francisco, Calif.; Mark Miller, of Coyote Café, Santa Fe and Las Vegas and Wildfire, Sidney, Australia; and Anthony Cipollone, UNM pastry chef. Entertainment will include music and dance provided by the Chinese Cultural Center, sitar music by Mohan Sopori and music by Korean drummers. Objects from the Maxwell Museum will also be on display and silent and live auctions will be held. The Celebrate benefit is an annual event that links the celebration of food and culture. It supports education programs and outreach produced for The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology and the Alfonso Ortiz Center for Intercultural Studies. The Maxwell Museum relies on support from external sources and funds raised will enable the museum to provide educational and programmatic outreach. The Ortiz Center promotes the participation of community scholars, artists, healers, performers, and writers at the university through collaborative projects with faculty, museum professionals and students.
