COLLEGE, CAREERS HIGHLIGHTS OF NEW MEXICO STATE FAIR SEPT. 6

New Mexico higher education institutions are collaborating with the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education, Gaining Early Access and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), and the University of New Mexico for "Pathways to College and Careers Day" at the New Mexico State Fair on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 70 booths on Main Street will feature exhibits from UNM, Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute, Eastern New Mexico University, New Mexico Highlands University, College of Santa Fe, St. John's College, Institute of American Indian Arts, the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute and more.

Carol Cloer, state fair commission chair and Michael Cerletti, state fair general manager, will host opening ceremonies at the Ford Pavilion at 11 a.m.

Among distinguished guests expected to attend are Louis Caldera, UNM president; Daniel Lopez, NM Tech president; and Sharon Caballero, NMHU president. UNM's Spirit Squad will close opening ceremonies along with Lobo Louie and Lucy.

UNM has more than 20 departments participating in the Pathways to College and Careers Day. They include Alumni Relations, College Enrichment Program, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Extended University, Focus Programs; GRO, Los Pasos, Milagro, SELECTT, Department of Pediatrics, UNM Maternity & Infant Care Clinics, NM Poison Center, Recreation Services, Recruitment Services, the Testing Center, Anderson Schools of Management and Public Administration, College of Nursing, Chicano/a Studies, College of Pharmacy, Continuing Education, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Emergency Medical Services Academy, Lobo Athletics and Chemistry.

Hands-on activities, demonstrations, non-invasive health assessments and entertainment and activities for the entire family are scheduled. Event t-shirts are available for $10.
