ARIZONA GOVERNOR JANET NAPOLITANO TO GIVE ARTHUR A. BLUMENFELD LECTURE ON PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Napolitano will also speak to UNM Anderson Schools’ and Public Administration students

Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano will be the guest speaker for the second annual Arthur A. Blumenfeld Memorial Lecture on September 26, 2003, at the Sheraton Old Town Hotel. The event is open to the public, with a cocktail reception beginning at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the Governor’s keynote speech. Tickets for the event are $75 and are limited. For information contact Lisa McHale at UNM via e-mail: mchale@mgt.unm.edu or call 277-0880 to RSVP.

Gov. Napolitano’s other speaking engagements are by invitation only.

The Arthur A. Blumenfeld Endowed Lecture Series honors the life and work of Arthur Blumenfeld, former national president of the Government Finance Officers Association and former chief administrative officer of the City of Albuquerque.

The Series is dedicated to furthering best practices in the fields of public administration and municipal finance, issues that Blumenfeld was passionate about. With this theme in mind, Gov. Napolitano will also give a speech at The University of New Mexico Student Union Building, Ballroom A, that addresses the shape and quality of public administration in the United States and the Southwest, as well as the administrative and political challenges she has faced in her capacities as Arizona’s U.S. Attorney, Attorney General and Governor. The speech begins at 1 p.m.

Students and faculty of UNM’s School of Public Administration and Anderson Schools of Management will be invited to attend. The luncheon is provided by contributions to the UNM Foundation/ Arthur A. Blumenfeld Memorial Lecture Series.

During her day-long visit, Gov. Napolitano is also scheduled to make several appearances in her former hometown. Napolitano, who graduated from Sandia High School in 1975, will return to her alma mater to help celebrate the school’s homecoming festivities, and will meet specially invited students and faculty to talk about careers in public administration. The talk will be followed with a tour of the school by some of her former classmates.

Gov. Napolitano will also visit Comanche Elementary, where she attended grade school. Her keynote speech will mark the culmination of a week-long series of festivities celebrating Comanche Elementary’s 40th anniversary.
