UNM TO HOST PANEL DISCUSSION REGARDING FOREIGN POLICY ISSUES

The University of New Mexico will host a panel discussion titled, “The People Speak: America Debates Its Role in the World,” on Monday, Oct. 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Continuing Education and Community Services building, conference room C, 1634 University Blvd., N.E. The discussion is free and open to the public.

Panelists include Roger Hagengruber, director, Center for Public Policy, UNM; William Stewart, foreign affairs columnist, Santa Fe New Mexican; Paul Stokes, Albuquerque Committee on Foreign Relations; and former New Mexico Governors Jerry Apodaca and Dave Cargo. Dr. Patricia McFate will moderate.

Issues to be discussed include the use of preemptive military force to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction; whether or not America should focus more on issues such as the environment, poverty and health; under what conditions should the U.S. take part in military interventions; and whether or not America is better off working with international institutions.

The discussion is sponsored in part by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, United Nations Foundation, American Enterprise Institute, UNM and the Albuquerque Committee on Foreign Relations.

A reception will also be held prior to the discussion from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Call Adriana Badal (505) 688.4715 to RSVP.
