October 20, 2003 CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS SPONSOR 'FUTURE OF UNM' FORUM A forum, "The Future of UNM" is scheduled for Thursday, Oct.
30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the SUB Ballroom. Co-sponsored by Faculty Senate, the UNM Staff Council, ASUNM and GPSA
and moderated by Hugh Witemeyer, president of the UNM chapter of the
American Association of University Professors, all staff, students,
faculty and retirees are encouraged to attend. At a recent Board of Regents meeting UNM President Louis Caldera expressed
his support of the event and asked university departments to allow staff
to attend, as they are able. Individuals from across campus will come together to present their
hopes, concerns and suggestions to a "listeners panel" of
representatives: UNM President Louis Caldera, UNM Regents Jamie Koch
and Mel Eaves, Faculty Senate President Beverly Burris, Staff Council
President Alan Morgan, GPSA President Aaron Kugler, ASUNM President
Jennifer Onuska. Unlike most panel discussions, this forum is designed so panelists
can listen to their constituents speak about where UNM is now and what
direction it should go. Members of the audience will take turns making statements and asking
questions. At the end of the forum, each panelist will be given a few
minutes to respond to his or her constituency. "This is a historic opportunity for all parts of the UNM community to come together and help shape our shared future. Higher educational institutions in the U.S. are changing rapidly, and UNM has a new president and a mostly new Board of Regents who are all open to hearing from UNM faculty, staff and students about the university," said Beverly Burris. # # #
