November 5, 2003 UNM HOSTS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL NOV. 19 The University of New Mexico's Office of International Programs and
Studies hosts, "One Planet, Many Faces," an international
festival, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., in the auxiliary
gym, at UNM's Johnson Center. The festival, now in its fifth year, includes live music and dance
performances from around the world, including Russian and Indian classical
dance, and flamenco and African dance. The colorful sights and sounds
of a global community will make this year's event particularly memorable,
said Ken Carpenter, associate director, Office of International Programs
and Studies. Food from many cultures, prepared by UNM's international students and
organizations, and the local international community will be for sale.
Last year's event featured food from more than 20 countries some 1,500
students, faculty, staff and community participants. "This year looks to be just as promising," Carpenter said.
Food prices range from just 50 cents to four dollars, making it inexpensive
to sample a variety of foods. Among the UNM departments and organizations sponsoring the festival
are the Office of International Programs and Studies, Latin American
and Iberian Institute, El Centro de la Raza, Student Fee Review Board
and Student Special Events. For more information contact the Office of International Programs and Studies, 277-4032 or oips@unm.edu. # # # |
