UNM KWANZAA CELEBRATION SET FOR DEC. 6

Celebrating traditional African thoughts and ideals, the University of New Mexico's annual Kwanzaa celebration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Isotope Park VIP Lounge.
The event is sponsored by UNM's African American Student Services. Activities scheduled from 7-10 p.m. include dinner, Kathy McGill and her jazz band, poetry and the full Kwanzaa candle light ceremony.

Tickets will be sold in advance with a limited number available at the door. Tickets are $20 for the general public, $15 for educational institution faculty/staff, and $10 for students with ID. Suites are still available for $300 (each accommodates a maximum of 20).

Kwanzaa is a traditional holiday, which supports the seven principles of responsibility for self, family, community and the future of the culture and the nation.

"African American Student Services is committed to recognizing the differences within the African American culture, appreciating other cultures and promoting programs within the university and surrounding community that provides a cross-cultural perspective," said Jocelyn Gamble Mims, senior student program advisor for African American Student Services.
