UNM ECONOMICS GRADUATE STUDENT ORGANIZATION TO HOST LECTURE FROM RENOWNED ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMIST

The University of New Mexico’s Economics Graduate Student Organization will host a lecture featuring renowned environmental economist, Dr. John Loomis, Thursday, Nov. 20, beginning at 3:30 p.m., in Dane Smith Hall, room 123, located on main campus.

The lecture, titled “Visitation Behavior for Changes in Wildlife Management at Grand Teton National Park,” will feature a discussion about valuing the environment and policy changes in our national parks.

Loomis, a professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Colorado State, teaches in the economics of outdoor recreation, environmental economics and public lands management. His academic interests include economic valuation of non-marketed natural and environmental resources such as rivers, wetlands, wilderness, wildlife and fisheries. Loomis also applies benefit-cost analysis to evaluate trade-offs of commodity production and preservation of natural resources.

Loomis is also the author of Integrated Public Lands Management, a text which suggests how planning and management of National Forests, Parks, Wildlife Refuges and Bureau of Land Management lands can be improved.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information contact Ryan Helton at 277-2035.
