The University Chorus will join with the UNM Wind Symphony and Symphonic
Band to perform the works of Aaron Copland, Daniel Pinkham and Michael
Daugherty for "An American Holiday" Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7:30
p.m. at Popejoy Hall. "We do a large concert every December," said University Chorus
Director Bradley Ellingboe. "This is a bit of a departure for us.
We typically perform to something like Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This
semester we are doing something a little lighter. And, since all the composers
are American, we are calling the concert 'An American Holiday.'" The chorus has performed only once prior with the Wind Symphony, a UNM
band directed by Eric Rombach-Kendall. This performance also features
the UNM Symphonic Band, directed by Miller Asbill. The band will give
the first performance of the evening followed by the chorus' rendition
of Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata." The three groups will perform independently throughout the evening and
then the University Chorus and Wind Symphony will combine to perform American
folksongs arranged by Copland, Ellingboe said. The University Chorus is a non-auditioned oratorio society. Of the more
than 140 members, about 25 are UNM students and another 25 are faculty
and staff with the remaining from the greater Albuquerque community. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 students and $7 children. Funds
raised at the performance will benefit an endowed scholarship fund for
chorus music at UNM. For tickets go to tickets.com online or call 1-800-905-3315; call UNM
ticketing, 925-5858, or visit any UNM ticket office. ### |
