April 1, 2002 UNM GRADUATE STUDENT SYMPOSIUM SET FOR APRIL 5-6; KEYNOTE ADDRESS
SET FOR APRIL 4 The University of New Mexicos annual graduate student symposium
on April 5 is scheduled for noon to 4:30 p.m., and April 6 from 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. in Dane Smith Hall room 125. The event is sponsored by the Anthropology Graduate Student Union, but
participants come from a wide range of UNM departments. The symposium
offers an opportunity for students and community members to increase awareness
of relevant issues from a variety of viewpoints. Presentations include graduate student research on verbal and nonverbal
forms of communication, small group dynamics, the archaeology and biology
of the people of the Americas, the mixture of economics and behavior in
different societies, and perspectives on group organization from several
cultures, among other topics. The keynote address given by Dr. C. C. Lamberg-Karlovsky, the Stephen
Phillips Professor of Archeology at Harvard University, will be held Thursday,
April 4 at 7 p.m. in the Anthropology Building 163. Participation is open
to all graduate students at UNM, regardless of department, and attendance
is expected to range from 70-100 people including students, faculty, and
