AMERICAN INDIAN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION TO HOLD SIXTH ANNUAL COMMEMORATIVE BANQUET

The American Indian Business Association (AIBA) at the University of New Mexico will hold its sixth annual commemorative banquet on Friday, May 3, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Sandia Casino. The theme for this year’s event is “Our Vision, Our Traditions, Our Future.”

The purpose of the annual event is to recognize UNM’s American Indian graduates, reflect on AIBA’s achievements and honor American Indian businesses and leaders. The keynote speaker for this year’s celebration is Verna Williamson Teller, former Governor of Isleta Pueblo and owner/operator of AVT Enterprises, a training and consulting firm based out of Isleta Pueblo.

The event will feature the second annual American Indian Entrepreneurial Leadership award, which is presented to an American Indian business person who has made significant contributions to the tribal community. Student leadership awards will also be presented to American Indian students recognizing and honoring their academic achievements and contributions made to their respective communities.

The AIBA was founded in 1994 and has worked toward providing American Indian students with the access to education at UNM with the efforts focusing on recruitment and retention, increasing the graduation rate of American Indian students and providing a link for students to the business and tribal communities.

Tickets for the banquet, which includes dinner and entertainment, are $25 and can be purchased at the AIBA office at UNM’s Robert O. Anderson Schools of Management. For more information call (505) 277-8447.
