April 22, 2002 UNM professor Guenther awarded life member status of School of Optics Research Professor Arthur H. Guenther of the University of New Mexico
Center for High Technology Materials was recently awarded life member
status as an affiliate of the School of Optics/CREOL (Center for Research
and Education in Optics/Lasers). Guenther chaired an external review committee,
which led to the establishment of the School of Optics as a formal academic
unit at the University of Central Florida. Prior to his arrival at UNM, Professor Guenther held senior technical position in both the Department of Defense and Department of Energy in New Mexico. He also served as Science Advisor to three New Mexico governors. Guenther has a long and distinguished career of service to New Mexico from optics to defense to education to technology-based economic development serving in the past as the first legislated science advisor to several governors. Guenther is the previous chief scientist of the Air Force Weapons Laboratory and held a similar position at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He is a pioneer in laser activities and directed energy. ###
