UNM Foundation elects five new board members
The University of New Mexico Foundation has elected five board members
to its Board of Directors. They include: Suzanne M. Barker, Michael Emerson,
Louis L. (Lou) Weller and Anne Yegge, all of Albuquerque, and Richard
(Dick) Gerding, of Farmington. They will each serve four-year terms on
the board.
In addition, three directors were re-elected for a second four-year term
on the board including Ted Martinez, Dr. George Omer and Dorothy Rianosek,
all of Albuquerque.
Four directors, elected in 1994, retired from the board after completing
two full terms. They are Richard Gregory, Henry Jaramillo, Jr., Edwin
T. Mahr and Ron L. Schmeits. Retiring chair Mary D. Poole of Albuquerque
will serve an extra one-year term in the capacity of immediate past chair.
The incoming chair is Robert Goodman of Albuquerque and the incoming vice
chair is Donald F. (Duffy) Swan of Cedar Crest. Ted Martinez of Albuquerque
was elected secretary of the board and UNM Vice President of Business
and Finance Julie Weaks was elected treasurer. UNM Development Director
Leslie Elgood serves as president of the UNM Foundation.
Barker is a partner in the Albuquerque law firm of Modrall, Sperling,
Roehl, Harris and Sisk. She received her juris doctorate from the UNM
School of Law.
Emerson is part-owner and senior vice president of the California-based
ARES Corporation and is a graduate of the UNM School of Engineering.
Gerding is a partner in the law firm of Gerding & OLaughlin,
PC. He earned his bachelor of arts degree from the Anderson Schools of
Management and a law degree from the UNM School of Law.
Weller is the founder and president of Weller Architects, PC. He was
the first Native American graduate from the UNM School of Architecture
and Planning.
Yegge is the former director of family and community services and former
budget director, both for the City of Albuquerque. She received her bachelors
degree in psychology from UNM and a masters of arts in guidance
from the College of Education at UNM.
The UNM Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization with the responsibility
to receive, invest and distribute gifts of private support to UNM.
