EMPLOYEE HEALTH'S RAEL SELECTED YOUNG DIETITIAN OF THE YEAR
Shelley Rael, clinical nutritionist for the UNM Employee Health Promotion
Program, was recently selected Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY)
for 2002 by the New Mexico Dietetic Association.
Rael has worked at UNM for four years in the Employee Health Promotion as
an undergraduate, graduate and now fulltime staff member.
"This award speaks to the quality of information that Shelley provides.
She visits departments providing them with dietary and nutritional counseling.
Being recognized by the State of New Mexico brings recognition to UNM and
to the program," says Judy Wright, program manager.
The RYDY program recognizes competence and activities of younger dietitians
in the American Dietetic Association (ADA) while encouraging their continued
participation in association affairs. Criteria for selection include membership
with the ADA, being 35 years or younger and an active participant in national,
state or district association.
Candidates must also demonstrate concern for the promotion of optimal health
and nutritional status of the population and demonstrated leadership in either
the association or employment.
Each affiliate, or state association, selects one candidate annually and
is recognized by the ADA.
