GEORGE TRUJEQUE NAMED UNM DIRECTOR OF GOLF

George Trujeque of Los Lunas, who has served as General Manager and Head Golf Professional at the Tierra de Sol Country Club in Belen since 1996, has been named University of New Mexico Director of Golf effective Aug. 20, said Dupuy Bateman, UNM Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises.

Trujeque succeeds Henry Sandles, who retired from the position.

Bateman said Trujeque's responsibilities will be to "direct and oversee the management of all aspects of the University's golf courses, including course operations, golf concessions, turf and equipment maintenance and retail facilities."

"George brings a solid and well-rounded record of experience to the position. We're looking forward to working with him," Bateman said.

Before his tenure in Belen, Trujeque served as Director of Golf at the Club de Golf Los Lagos A.C., Hermosillo, Mexico. Prior to earning his PGA credentials in 1996, he was a coach and educator in the Los Lunas and Belen Consolidated Schools.

He initiated a number of golf programs at the Tierra de Sol County Club, including women's golf clinics and junior summer camps, and at the Club de Golf Los Lagos A.C., including the USGA Handicap Program in conjunction with the Arizona Golf Association and the Los Lagos Women's Golf Association, and junior golf programs.

Trujeque earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from UNM in 1971 and attended the San Diego Golf Academy in Rancho Santa Fe, CA.
