TULAROSA-AREA NATIVE RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP FROM ANDERSON SCHOOLS OF MANAGEMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO

University of New Mexico student Brandelynn Jokiel, from Tularosa, N.M., recently received the Dorothy Ellen Reid Memorial Scholarship from the Anderson Schools of Management.

The Dorothy Ellen Reid Memorial Scholarship, established by Professor Richard Reid as a memorial to his sister, is awarded annually to a student with a concentration in marketing of operations management. The scholarship is part of the largest pool of scholarship and fellowship awards in Anderson Schools of Management history. Awards totaled nearly $200,000 and support 71 graduate and undergraduate students at The Schools.

Jokiel, a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in production and operations management, was able to return to school to pursue her degree with the assistance of the scholarship.

“The scholarship enabled me to return to school without working,” Jokiel said. “After several years away from school, I found it very difficult financially to return to a full-time school schedule. This scholarship has helped me stay in school and complete my degree more quickly.”

Jokiel says the University of New Mexico is a great school for anyone, but especially beneficial for New Mexicans growing up in small towns.

“It gives you the opportunity to explore a city with diversity, while still enjoying a native New Mexican culture,” said Jokiel.

“Students not only learn from their classes, but also from the new social experience while still being close to home. With the new lottery scholarships, the availability of financial aid, and the relatively low tuition, any New Mexican that wants to attend college should seriously consider this dynamic school.”

“Through the very generous donations of many corporations and individual supporters, the Anderson Schools of Management have made a real difference in the ability of our students to pursue their continued education,” said Dean Howard L. Smith.

“Anderson students are highly competitive in the market as a result of their education at The Schools, and for many students, that education wouldn’t be possible without this support.”

Jokiel is the daughter of Bill and Sandy Staas, and is married to Bernie Jokiel.
