UNM GRADUATE STUDIES ESTABLISHES MENTORING AWARD
The Harvey Foundation Graduate Faculty Mentoring Award at the University of
New Mexico is being established to recognize exceptional efforts of faculty
mentoring graduate students. Ken Frandsen, Interim Dean of Graduate Studies,
announced this new award at a recent meeting of the Graduate and Professional
Student Association Council.
Frandsen indicated that Graduate Students would have the opportunity to nominate
individual faculty members for this award and participate in the selection process.
This award includes a cash prize of $3,000 and a release from instructional
responsibilities for one course in the semester following the award so that
the recipient can devote additional time to mentoring.
Frandsen said that the award will recognize the ways in which extraordinary
faculty enhance the experience of graduate education for the students they instruct
and advise.
This award was made possible by a generous grant from Harvey Foundation. The
award will be presented annually. Nominations for the award will be forthcoming
and a recipient will be announced in May.
