INTERNATIONAL EXPERT TO SPEAK ON "CHINA'S ENTRY INTO THE WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION

With globalization sweeping across geo-political boundaries, it has created some unlikely partnerships, including China and the World Trade Organization (WTO). On Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 a.m., Peter Walters, chair and professor and the head of the Department of Business Studies from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will present a lecture on “China’s Entry in the World Trade Organization: What it Really Means.” The lecture is hosted by The Anderson Schools of Management at the University of New Mexico.

Walters, an international business expert, brings an insider’s view of China’s entry into the WTO, and will dissect the effects of this relationship. Walters has resided in Hong Kong since 1994, allowing him a close look at China’s economic processes in the global economy. China’s entry into the WTO has implications for many industries. Exporters may find market entry easier and companies wanting to invest as foreign-owned enterprises may find more opportunities. Similarly, companies interested in forming joint ventures and strategic alliances may also benefit. Walters will cover these issues and will focus on implication for New Mexico businesses interested in marketing to China.

The lecture will be held at the Continuing Education Building, 1634 University Blvd. NE, room H. There is a $20 fee and reservations must be made in advance. A buffet breakfast will be provided. To RSVP or for more information call 277-0880 or e-mail mchale@mgt.unm.edu before Monday, Feb. 18.
