UNM Alumni Association Board of Directors honors four

The University of New Mexico Alumni Association Board of Directors will honor four individuals Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Albuquerque Sheraton Old Town.

Milton Ward (‘74 MBA) will be presented with the James F. Zimmerman Award. V.B. Price (‘62 BA) will receive the Erna S. Fergusson Award. Daniel H. Lopez (‘70 BA, ‘72 MA, Ph.D. ‘82) will receive the Bernard S. Rodey Award and Monica S. Cyrino will receive the Faculty Teaching Award.

Milton Ward Ward is the president and CEO of Ward Resources, Inc. During his career he directed or has been responsible for exploration, planning, development, smelting, marketing and other activities in the mineral industry on six of the seven continents. His experience covers the world and the spectrum of metals, minerals and ores ranging from A to Z, (Antimony to Zinc and Australia to Zambia). The Zimmerman Award is given to an alumnus of UNM who has made a significant contribution which has brought fame and honor to UNM or the State of New Mexico.
V.B. Price Price is an editor, author, teacher and poet. He is a series editor for the Mary Burrit Christensen Poetry Series, UNM Press, and columnist for the Albuquerque Tribune. He is on the faculty for the UNM Honors Program and an adjunct professor for the UNM School of Architecture and Planning. His poetry has been published in numerous periodicals and he has received several honors and awards. The Fergusson Award is given in recognition of exceptional accomplishments, or for commitment or distinguished service to UNM.
Daniel H. Lopez Lopez is the president of New Mexico Tech. He has 25 years of experience in public service and higher education, particularly in administration, planning, finance and budgeting and social research. He is president of the Council of New Mexico University Presidents. The Rodey Award honors those who have devoted an unusual amount of time in a leadership capacity and whose efforts have contributed significantly to the field of education.
Monica S. Cyrino Cyrino is an associate professor of classics at UNM and is the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Cyrino is the recipient of the UNM Presidential Teaching Fellowship Award for 2000-2002. Her book, “In Pandora’s Jar: Lovesickness in Early Greek Poetry,” was published by University Press of America in 1995. She has had numerous articles in refereed journals and in edited volumes. She has also had numerous book reviews and has delivered several professional papers. The Faculty Teaching Award recognizes outstanding teaching and service to students.
