PUBLIC FORUM ON SPACE NUCLEAR POWER AND PROPULSION FEBRUARY 4
A public forum concerning the Benefits of Space Nuclear Power and Propulsion
will be held Monday, Feb. 4 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel,
Grand Pavilion. Registration will begin at 7 p.m. The doors will be closed to
further admittance at 7:30 p.m.
The forum is sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
(AIAA) Nuclear and Future Flight Propulsion Technical Committee. Admission to
the event is open to the general public and is free, however, a photo identification
and sign in will be required of all attendees.
The session will begin with a brief overview of rocket propulsion fundamentals
to acquaint the audience with current propulsion systems and capabilities, followed
by presentations on nuclear thermal propulsion, nuclear electric power and propulsion,
and nuclear safety. Following the presentations, the panel will address questions/comments
from the audience.
Speakers include Dr. George Schmidt, NASA, he will give an introduction to propulsion; Dr. Stanley Borowski, NASA, will present nuclear thermal propulsion; Dr. Michael Houts, NASA, will address nuclear electric power and propulsion; and Dr. Gary Bennett, DOE/NASA, retired, will discuss nuclear safety.
