MILLER NAMED INTERIM DIRECTOR OF UNM GALLUP BRANCH

Elizabeth L. Miller, dean of instruction at the University of New Mexico Gallup Branch since 1996, will become interim director of the UNM Gallup Branch effective Jan. 28, UNM Provost Brian L. Foster announced today.

She succeeds Robert E. Carlson, who earlier this month announced he was leaving the UNM Gallup Branch to accept a position as president of Chabot College in Hayward, CA.

"Beth has an extensive record of experience at the Gallup Branch and, over the years, she's established excellent connections with the community and the people who live in that area," Foster said. "She's provided leadership in numerous programs relative to the branch's instructional areas and she's been key in other areas, such as curriculum reform and departmental reorganization, for example. We look forward to working with her."

Foster said he will initiate a search for a permanent director later in the 2002 spring semester.

From 1987 to 1996, Miller served as chair of the Business Technology Department at the UNM Gallup Branch. She is the recipient of the 1989 UNM Gallup Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Award and the 1989 UNM Branch College Outstanding Faculty Award.

Miller received her Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Cottey College, Nevada, MO, in 1968; her Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, in 1970; her Master of Science degree in Business Education from Emporia State University, Emporia, KS, in 1973; and, her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from UNM in 1996.
