UNM SPONSORS RECEPTION FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAN INDIAN

The University of New Mexico Arts of the Americas Institute and College of Fine Arts will sponsor a reception for the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) assistant director of Community Services Niki Sandoval (Chumash), Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5-6 p.m. at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Antelope Room.

Sandoval will give a slide-illustrated presentation from 4:30-5 p.m. and report on the progress of the NMAI. She will share information on programs, including internships, and other museum activities. Sandoval is responsible for the conceptualization, delivery and evaluation of outreach products and services targeting Native American communities in the Western Hemisphere.

She received a MA in Museum Studies from George Washington University, 1997, and BA in Public Relations from Pepperdine University, 1993.

Sandoval is from the Chumash community located on the Santa Ynez Indian Reservation in California. She is a contributing writer to Hemispheric Digest of Native Americas journal and has lectured extensively on the NMAI and its programs.
