LESLIE ELGOOD NAMED UNM DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND PRESIDENT OF UNM FOUNDATION,
INC.
University
of New Mexico Vice President for Advancement Judy K. Jones today announced the
appointment of Leslie Elgood to the position of UNM Director of Development
and President of the UNM Foundation, Inc., effective immediately.
The UNM Foundation, Inc. is an incorporated not-for-profit organization with
the responsibility to receive, invest and distribute gifts of private support
to UNM. The UNM Development Office staffs and helps direct the Foundation in
conjunction with the Foundation Board of Directors and Vice President Jones.
Gifts to the UNM Foundation are tax deductible to the maximum provided by law.
Jones said Elgood's selection was the result of "a lengthy and rigorous
search process." In Elgood, Jones said, "we have an individual who
has the skills and experience we have been seeking for this position. Leslie
is an experienced professional fundraiser. She has management experience both
here and in her previous positions and she is familiar with UNM and the broader
community. Under her leadership, our development program will continue to move
forward."
"I am delighted that I have been selected to serve as Director of Development and I plan to provide the stability, leadership and expertise that will contribute to the continued growth and strengthening of the University's fundraising program," Elgood said.
Elgood, who has held the position on an interim basis since January, 2001,
has 20 years of experience in fundraising and management. From 1998 to 2001,
she served as director of Major Gifts for the UNM Foundation, Inc.
From 1992-98, she was general manager and director of development for Catholic
Charities, Inc./Sacramento Food Bank Services. From 1986-91, Elgood was with
the Sutter Hospitals Foundation, Sutter Health, first as assistant director
of fund development and then as director.
Elgood earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Michigan in 1976 and participated in the Master's Studies Program in 1977-78 in the School of Education, New York University.
