June 11, 2002 UNM ECONOMICS PROFESSORS TO PRESENT WORK AT CONFERENCE Several University of New Mexico Economics Department professors will
participate in the Second World Congress of Environmental Economists hosted
by the Giannini Foundation of Agricultural and Resource Economics, June
24-27, in Monterey, Calif. The conference, which is the largest of its
kind drawing environmental and resource economists from around the world,
will focuses on issues and research amongst economists. Im very pleased that nearly half of the department faculty
will be participating in this very prestigious conference, said
Economics Chair Richard Santos. It involves many of our faculty
members in an area of our department that is well known. It also speaks well for our faculty members ability to draw
financial support for these papers. We are very proud and I think this
will be very helpful both in recruiting graduate students and letting
other universities in the country know of our fine work in this area. The following UNM faculty will present their work at the conference:
A Web-Based Risk Experiment: Design and Implementation, David
S. Brookshire and Philip Ganderton; Water Consumption: Comparing
Consumer Response In and Out of the Lab, Kate Krause, Janie Chermak
and Brookshire; Western Water Market Prices and the Economic Value
of Water, Brookshire, Ganderton, and graduate students Mary Ewers
and Joe Little; The Demand for Water: Consumer Response to Scarcity,
Krause, Chermak and Brookshire; and Lab and Field Studies of Experience
and Subject Pool Effects in Contingent Valuation, UNM alumni and
University of Tennessee professor Steven Stewart , Alok Bohara, Brookshire
and Ganderton. This is more than just a regular meeting to us, said Brookshire.
We have had a well know program of environmental and resource economics
at UNM for some time and this conference gives the Department of Economics
at UNM tremendous visibility in those areas. The conference is sponsored by the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. Conference co-hosts include: the University of California at Berkeley and at Davis, the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara. # # # |
