UNM WOMEN'S CENTER SEEKS FUNDS FOR SINGLE MOM SCHOLARSHIP
A new University of New Mexico Women's Resource Center scholarship campaign
will benefit single mothers who attend UNM to complete or begin a degree.
The center is seeking funds to provide two $500 scholarships per semester beginning
this fall. Nearly $600 has been raised to date, says Center Director Sandrea
Gonzales.
"I have had the opportunity to meet and work with many of these outstanding
women who carry full-time class loads and are also raising families," Gonzales
says. "Many of these women are facing harsh financial situations trying
to be both students and heads of households at the same time, and in many circumstances,
are unable to complete their studies because of the mounting financial costs."
The mission of the Women's Resource Center is to offer support and advocacy
for an equitable, safe and positive environment where all women students, faculty
and staff can fully participate and benefit from the University.
To contribute to the scholarship and for more information, call the UNM Women's Resource Center at 505-277-3716.
