UNM to conduct search for Vice President for Business and
Finance
The University of New Mexico will conduct a national search for vice president
for Business and Finance, said Robert Desiderio, dean at UNMs School of
Law and search committee chair for the position.
Julie Weaks has served as interim vice president for business and finance since
January 1999.
The goal of the search committee is to fill this position with an individual
of exceptional merit who is capable of providing strong and creative leadership
for the University of New Mexico over the coming years, Desiderio said.
This is a highly important position for the University.
As the chief financial officer for the University, the vice president for Business
and Finance provides leadership and direction to the institutions business
and support functions and is a member of Presidents executive council.
The vice president oversees the Budget Office, Business Policies, Controllers
Office and other treasury functions (payroll, general accounting, contracts
and grants, and cashiering), Dispute Resolution, Electronic Management, Endowment
Management, Facility Planning, Human Resources, Physical Plant, Printing Services,
Purchasing and Materiel Management, Real Estate, Risk Management (including
Campus Safety), Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and fiscal oversight
of auxiliary enterprises. The vice president ensures that business transactions
and support services meet the universitys short- and long-term goals and
objectives.
Minimum qualifications for the position include a masters degree in business
administration, management or a related field. More than 10 years experience
directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Teresa Córdova, School of Architecture and Planning; Desiderio; Linda
Easley, Health Sciences Center Budget Office; John Geissman, Earth and Planetary
Sciences and Faculty Senate president; Alex Gonzalez, Scholarship Office; Helen
Gonzales, Employee and Organizational Development; Irvin Harrison, University
Honors; Laura Loose, UNM-Los Alamos; Roger Lujan, Facility Planning; Bill McGillis,
Intercollegiate Athletics; and Howard Smith, Anderson Schools of Management.
Diane Gwinn, School of Engineering, serves as search coordinator.
Desiderio said that the committee welcomes any nominations for the position.
All candidate applications must be received by the committee by 5 p.m. April
2. The vice president for Business and Finance is expected to take office by
