UNM HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL INTERCOLLEGIATE RODEO
More than 10 college and university rodeo teams will be in Albuquerque for
the 2nd Annual University of New Mexico Intercollegiate Rodeo on April 13. The
event will be held at the Bernalillo County Sheriffs Posse arena in Albuquerque,
Alameda and 2nd Street.
All teams under the Grand Canyon region will compete for awards and prizes
and an opportunity to qualify for the 2002 finals to be held at Casper, Wyo.
for full rodeo scholarships. UNM has four students who have been competing in
their respective events and have been placing and winning in other events. Students
include Brandon Bates, Jed Moser, Robbie Whitehair and Tasa Stromei.
Pre-rodeo event begins Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. which will include several
fund raising events such as open calf and break away ropings and barrel racing.
Regular collegiate rodeo performances will include three full performances,
beginning with the Saturday morning slack at 8 a.m., followed by the 1 p.m.
long-go performance and concluding with the short-go final performances at 6
p.m.
Admission to all events is $5 adults and $3 for students/seniors. Kids under
6-years-old enter free.
