SECOND ANNUAL NEW MEXICO DISABILITY CONFERENCE SCHEDULED
The second annual New Mexico Disability Conference will be held Thursday and
Friday, March 21-22, at the Albuquerque Convention Center, in the lower level
of the West Complex. The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both
days. A banquet is scheduled for Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. The conference is
partially sponsored by the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services at the University
of New Mexico, the New Mexico Human Rights Coalition and the UNM Center for
Developmental Disabilities, as well as several other local agencies.
The conference, Continuing Toward Equality in the New Millennium,
will feature a variety of plenary sessions, workshops and exhibit booths. Workshop
topics include the American with Disabilities Act, Transportation and Fair Housing,
Internalized Oppression; Aging and Disability, Environmental Illness and Access,
Women and Disability, Wellness, Recreation and Disability, Early Childhood,
New Mexico Higher Education and Disability, Technical Assistance, Relationships
Intimacy and Sexuality, Disability and Culture and Disability and Family.
The conference is designed for people with disabilities, students, service providers,
policymakers, private and nonprofit agencies, local and state agencies and anyone
working with disability issues. The registration fee to attend the conference
is $50 per person, which includes the banquet. The cost for banquet attendees
only is $20. To attend the conference for one day is only $20.
