UNM LAW SCHOOL TO HOST TEACH-IN AND PANEL ON ENRON CASE
The University of New Mexico School of Law will host a teach-in and two panel
discussions on the Enron case and its many implications for society Thursday,
March 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the law school forum, 1117 Stanford, NE, on the UNM
North Campus.
The event is free and open to the public.
The event, titled "The Downfall, the Deception, What Now and What Can
we Learn?" will feature many speakers, including Leslie Lawner, formerly
of Enron's General Counsel and Government Affairs Office, Mark Sardella of the
Southwest Energy Institute, UNM Associate Dean Alfred Mathewson, UNM law professors
Timothy Canova, Nathalie Martin and Norman Bay, and professor of accounting
Joni Young.
Among the topics the first panel will discuss are fiduciary duties and corporate
governance, 401(k) questions, and the special purposes accounting principles
that allowed Enron to move transactions off its balance sheet.
A second panel will briefly discuss the bankruptcy case, deregulation and market
impact, environmental and criminal law issues.
There will be a question and answer period after each panel.
